ONLINE APPLICATION
The first step to applying to Virginia International University is to submit an online application. Please note that once you click on” online application”, you will leave this webpage.
PAYMENT OF FEES
Before an applicant can submit the online application, they are required to pay a mandatory $150 application fee. This fee can be paid online using a valid credit card. For applicants who are unable to pay by credit card, VIU will accept checks, money orders and wire transfers. Once the fee is received and processed by the university, the online application will be completed.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
Once an applicant has paid the application fee, they are required to submit all necessary application documents by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Only original or notarized/attested copies will be accepted for admission purposes. Documents are reviewed by an Admission Officer within 5-7 business days once the document(s) have been received.
VERIFYING STATUS OF ADMISSION APPLICATION
Applicants are able to check the status of their application documents at anytime by logging into the VIU Student Portal. Applicants should not contact the university directly to inquire about the status of their documents. Once a document or fee has been approved and accepted, the status of that document will be updated in the portal.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REQUIRING AN F-1 VISA
Applicants admitted into a residential program at VIU will receive an acceptance letter and I-20 form which will be required to secure a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy.
International students are required to notify VIU immediately of the status of their visa following their visa interview. If an applicant is granted an F-1 visa to study at VIU, they may enter the U.S. no earlier than 30 days prior to the first day of classes. If an applicant is denied a visa, they are encouraged to defer their admission and secure a second visa interview at the U.S. Embassy.
ENROLLING AT VIU
New VIU students are required to register for classes prior to the first day of classes of the semester for which they were accepted into. For students who are required to take the VIU English Placement test, this must be done before they can register for their courses. Class registration occurs once the student has arrived to the university.
